Haskell is a unique company that both designs and constructs buildings of all types. However, many of the professionals who set the daily expectations for masonry projects have never held a trowel, or if they have, it has been years since they were exposed!...

National Concrete Masonry
CHECKOFF Program

Becomes Law

Picture
The Concrete Masonry Products Research, Education, & Promotion Act of 2018 was signed into federal law on October 5, 2018, authorizing the concrete masonry industry to establish a national checkoff program. This initiative is overseen by the U.S. Department of Commerce and is designed to support industry-wide efforts in research, education, and promotion.

On December 20, 2021, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced that the CMU Checkoff had been officially approved. A majority of concrete block producers—representing the majority of machine cavities in operation—voted in favor of launching the program. The CMU Checkoff was created by block producers who envisioned a unified effort to grow demand for block products and reclaim lost market share.

The Florida Concrete Masonry Education Council (FCMEC) has been actively engaged in discussions around national governance and the development of the CMU Checkoff. FCMEC will continue to monitor the program’s progress and assess how it may impact funding and operations at the state level.

Until sustainable funding from the national checkoff becomes available, FCMEC will maintain its State Checkoff Program to continue supporting Florida-based industry education, promotion, and workforce development initiatives.
